Just Be Yourself. You’ve heard so many times before. Have you really ever thought about it? Sure, it’s easy to think that we are ourselves all the time. But that’s not really the case. So many people get wrapped up in being something they aren’t. They do things to impress others or to try and fit in. However, in order to unlock who you are, you have to understand yourself. When we think back on ourselves we can ask, what do we like? What don’t we like? What can we improve on? Thinking of yourself through failure is also an important thing to think about. We have to self-analyze in order to understand what our strengths and weaknesses are. In doing so we can understand the best ways to get the most out of ourselves. When you finally are able to be yourself you lose the pressure of being something you aren’t supposed to be, but instead, you become the person you were meant to be. When we lose the pressure we become the best part of ourselves. We are able to become a better athlete, we become a better friend, and we become a better overall person.
Oscar Wilde
In the final installment of Volume 1, we take a look at perhaps one of the most important aspects of performance, which is confidence. Confidence determines how we perform. When we are at our low with confidence it can be very difficult to trust in our abilities. Many times an athlete will have more than enough ability but no confidence and therefore is unable to do well. When we have confidence in ourselves and our abilities as athletes we can perform our best. Having confidence is something that comes with success but it also comes with hard work. When we put in the hours behind the screen we know deep down that we are more than capable of handling any situation. Confidence is essential to our success. I have felt firsthand what it is like to be without confidence. It is a dark and scary place as you don’t trust in what you’ve worked so hard to achieve. By staying the course and believing in what you know you can do, you can build up your confidence. Stay true to yourself, and be confident.
